Week 4 Lab API’s
In this week’s lab, Nathan further discussed and explained API’s which were the topic of this weeks lecture. For our purposes we will be “piggy backing” off other websites and using their API’s such as the Flickr API for grouping photos. I then created an RSS Reader account (Bloglines) and proceeded to add my favourite blogs to the reader. This is a very useful tool as it means i do not have to access all my blogs every time i want an update. Bloglines simply downloads all the content from my favorite blog sites and puts it into very easy to read folders for me to access when i want. Our final task was to set up a yahoo pipes account. I created my first basic pipe by adding all my favorite RSS feeds and then connected a flickr pipe to it. However, I am still unsure on how we are expected to use “pipes” and what it’s actually used for. On thursday i’ll seek clarification on this issue.
